A lot is not known about what the Dark energy is (actually that is why it is called Dark). Meanwhile, Dark energy is not associated with black magic or dark powers. It was only named thus for it's enigmatic phenomenon.

Edwin Hubble initiated the discovery in 1929 when he observed that the farther a galaxy is from the Earth, the faster it is moving away from us.
